Spanish Day
Auxi organised a Spanish Day which took place on Friday 24th June 2011. The day celebrated Spain and everything the children learned from Auxi and MaiKa. We all really enjoyed the day, especially the Spanish music and dancing.
We send out a big Irish “Go raibh maith agat” or “Thank you”, to our Spanish teacher. Auxi arrived in January and taught Spanish to all classes. The children really enjoy learning Spanish with Auxi, having learned some basic Spanish with MaiKa the previous year.
Graduation Mass
Our annual graduation ceremony and end of year mass takes place on Monday 27th June in the school grounds.
The 6th class leaving this year are the first group of children to have been taught in our school from Junior Infants right up to 6th class.
We will be sad to see them go but we wish them the best of luck in their bright futures.
School Tours and June Bank Holiday
Our school tours took place on Thursday, 2nd June 2011.
We then had a long weekend (Friday, 3rd June and Bank Holiday Monday, 6th June). We hope you enjoyed the sunshine!
Tidy Towns and Pride of Place
Our school is involved in a new initiative called “Herbs for Kerbs”. Our school will plant herbs in giant pots. When the plants have begun to grow, the pots will be moved to locations throughout Navan town. Passers-by will be able to sample our herbs, and local restaurants may use them in their cooking! Lots of Navan schools are involved, so look out for the colourful pots around town!
Solstice Festival
Our school is taking part in the Navan Summer Solstice Festival. Children from the older classes will be dressing up and taking part in a colourful parade through Navan town to celebrate. The parade takes place on June the 23rd. Check out the website www.solsticeartscentre.com for a list of family friendly events that will be taking place in Navan.

May
Confirmation

Our sixth class children recently received the Sacrament of Confirmation. It was a lovely day for all and we congratulate the children. Many thanks to their teacher, Ms. McGovern, and to all involved in the preparation for their special day.
We remember at this time that May is the Month of Mary.
We celebrate Mary during May and pray to her.
Meeting for all Parents
A very important meeting took place in Scoil Naomh Eoin on Wednesday 25th May.
This was to discuss the arrangements for moving to our beautiful new school and an update on our progress. We have worked very hard to get this far. Ms. McMahon really appreciates your support and was glad to see so many of you at the meeting.
Annual Golf Classic
Our Annual Golf Classic was held on Friday 20th May 2011.
A social night for all parents, families and friends of our school was held at 8.30pm at Navan Golf Club. Entrance was free and we had a raffle draw on the evening.
All funds raised are going towards equipment for our new school. A big thank you to all who contributed to the goody bags for all golfers or for prizes for the winning teams. All donations, great and small were greatly appreciated.
Thanks to everyone who turned out for the day and to all those who helped in the oganisation and running of this event.

English Classes for Parents
Another 6 week course of English classes for parents started on Monday the 16th of May. The classes will run every Monday morning from 9.00am to 10.30am in the Parent’s Room. There are limited places so please text or phone Sarah Clarke on 087 9099703 to book your place. The course of six classes will cost 12euro.
Book Fair
A book fair ran in our school from Monday 9th May to Friday 13th May.
During book fair week children bring a small amount of money to school and have the opportunity to buy books of their choice. Parents often visit the book fair after school to purchase books. There is always a wide range of new books and a selection of half price children’s books. The book company give us free books for our school library with each purchase. The more books bought, the more our school get for free! Also, the book company gives a book voucher to each class teacher and there is a lucky winner in each class.

March
Daffodil Day
Daffodil Day is on Friday 25th of March. We feel that the Cancer Association of Ireland is a fantastic charity that works hard to help those with Cancer and fight its causes. Most of us have been touched in some way by Cancer. This Thursday 24th and Friday 25th of March, we will be selling pins, pens, towels, cups, aprons and lots more. Please support this charity or make a donation. Thank you for your continued co-operation.
Phones for Boards
The school has now got an interactive white board and a visualiser! This is all thanks to our response to the Jack and Jill Mobile Phone appeal. We collected enough phones in 2010 to get the interactive whiteboard. This Spring, we collected enough phones to get a visualiser. We are still collecting mobile phones for some other I.T. goodies, so please continue to donate them! Jack and Jill have announced that the school who collects the most phonesthis year, will get a visit from Jedward!
Green Schools
Scoil Naomh Eoin has received its first Green Flag! We were delighted to get a letter to confirm that we won the award. Three children representing Scoil Naomh Eoin travelled to Dublin for the Green Flag Ceremony. The ceremony took place in Croke Park on the 10th of March. Well done to our Green School Committee and thanks to all who help us to reuse, recycle and make our world a better place.

Sports News
Girls Gaelic Football
There was great excitement in Scoil Naomh Eoin on the 10th of March when the girls Gaelic football team won their Mini-7s football tournament. They are now due to play in the final in Dunganny pitch on the Trim Road. On the road to victory, the girls had good wins against Stackallen N.S., St. Oliver’s N.S. and Wilkinstown N.S. On a wet and windy afternoon in Simonstown, the girls dug deep and showed great determination and teamwork skills to win all three games. Well done girls. We are all very proud!
Soccer FAI
The FAI soccer training programme is running two years now in Scoil Naomh Eoin. Every Wednesday for 6 weeks, FAI soccer coaches are teaching children from Ms. O’Neill’s 3rdclass new soccer skills, drills and games. The children love it and look forward to each week.
Cycling Workshop
Seventeen children from both Ms. McGovern’s 6th class and Mr. Beirne’s 5th class are taking part in a 6 week cycling workshop each Friday. This is a great basic life skill for them where they are learning how to look after their bikes, the rules of the road, basic hand signals and to stop quickly in times of danger. The children all receive a certificate after the 6 weeks.
Congratulations
> Congratulations to David Mc Donagh who won the Leinster Boxing Championships.
> Well done to Katie Bellew who won Most Improved Gaelic Player in Meath.
> Congratulations to the girls from our school who were successful for Simonstown’s Under 12s team.
